13) VSM PM202 Pastoral Counseling and Healing Ministry - 3 Credits

Purpose of the Course
The course is intended to prepare and equip students with basic counselling skills and healing ministry abilities, both for self-understanding as well as ministry in the body of Christ in Africa

Learning Outcomes
The course will enable the student to:
1. Understand the nature of mankind as created in the image of God and the processes of change that lead to Christian maturity.
2. Explain that spiritual maturity and emotional health are inseparable and thus, showing the correlation.
3. Imparting basic counselling skills.
4. Equipping in a ministry model of praying for physical/emotional healing and deliverance.
5. Training in team dynamics and mentoring others in healing ministry.

Course Content
Basic concepts in the theology of man, including creation in God’s image, the Fall and its consequences, redemption, and Christian maturity. Counselling issues in the local church, including substance abuse, depression, stress and burnout, polygamy, marital problems, demonization and family issues. Understanding of the authority of the believer, spiritual gifts, ministry models, deliverance and spiritual warfare. Creating ministry teams and a healing ministry in the local church.
